Kenosha Foodies

Kenosha Foodies is a food club in Kenosha, WI that meets monthly and is hosted on a rotating basis by it's members. The idea is to cook and eat great food and have fun doing it. The host selects a theme for the evening and creates and prepares the menu. Anything goes. Pushing out of the comfort zone is encouraged.

Preliminary September Menu

We're thinking we might go with a bit of a Japanese theme for September. No. No sushi. I'm not that brave yet.

I thought we might start with Chicken, Shrimp and Beef Sates with Peanut Sauce as an appetizer. For the entree I'm considering either Miso Glazed Sea Bass or Japanese Beef and Scallion Rolls. (I'm open to suggestions/preferences) Wasabi Mashed Potatoes and Braised Baby Bok Choy will likely be the sides. For dessert I'm thinking I might try something a bit unusual. I found a recipe for Green Tea Cheesecake with Raspberries and Raspberry-Mint-Tisane that looks interesting.

Let me know if you have any objections to any of these ideas.

UPDATE
I've added links to the recipes we tried. Overall I enjoyed the meal very much. There were a few things I would adjust if/when I try them again.

Post Prandial Review

Well, another session of the K-Town Foodies is behind us and with what I must consider mixed reviews. Speaking wholly for myself, I enjoyed a couple of items a bit more than some others. In particular, I must say the the shrimp and chorizo skewers were quite tasty. I'm not sure that I like the texture of the chorizo much but the flavor was excellent! As for the gazpacho, I thought it was refreshing and pretty tasty. One could certainly find the subtle flavors of most of the ingredients within the cold soup, but I think I am more partial to hot soups as a whole. The grilled ham and cheese sandwiches were very good but I cannot say that I was a real fan of the hot, spiced olives. Maybe this is because I usually don't eat olives unless they are the desert after a martini or old fashioned. All in all, the meal was good but I feel as though I did not really push the package as much as I should have. I will extend those limitations on our next endeavor. I would like to thank Don and Peggy for a very good evening and a wonderful new chair to add to our patio accessories. Listed below you may find the recipes used in this past meal, if you are led to try them again. Until next time.......
